Well, I just got back from the first official meeting of the Basement Jug & Washboard Band! And let me tell you, we had a blast! Basically, a group of us brought instrument and enthusiasm ( and some beer ) together for an evening of fellowship and musical enlightenment ( and did I mention the beer? )!

We had Greg on acoustic and electric guitar; Bill and Bill both on electric guitars; Drew and Gruber slappin’ out the rhythm on Bass guitars; and Wayne on electric guitar and keyboard. Greg and Wayne led the group ( Greg has quite possibility missed his calling as a music teacher ) through various songs, including Down on the Corner, Sweet Home Chicago, Whiskey Bar, House of the Rising Sun, All Along the Watch Tower, and a few others. Gruber and Drew really shined on the blues songs, Bill laid down some sweet rhythms, I just tried to keep up, and Greg and Wayne danced circles around the music. It really was a blast! We even had groupies show up as Steph and Grady made a brief appearance!

Thanks to Greg for hosting, Steph for her patience and understanding, and all the guys who made tonight such a blast! We are hoping to get together again soon, so I will post more then!

Well, I have pretty much finished the nursery makeover! I repainted all of the trim, put up cove moulding around the ceiling, swapped out all of the outlets and the light switch, installed a different ceiling fan ( the old one was… well… “old lady” <- those are Jess’ words :-) ), and painted the walls and ceiling a different color. I still need to swap out the old wooden bi-fold doors with mirrored bi-folds, but those won’t be in until Nov. 9… so I am on hold until then!

Overall, it wasn’t all that bad. I am still not so crazy about the painting part, which, unfortunately for me, was a big part of the project. But it went on nice and I only got paint in the my hair once – still not certain how that happened tho!? And the moulding finished out sooooo much better than I thought it would. All I can say about that is “wood putty rules!”

I think Jess and her mom may pick up the crib in Grand Rapids next weekend and the doors should be in by then as well. We also bought some prints by an awesome English artist named “Mackenzie Thorpe” and will hopefully get those framed sometime this week. I think curtains are one of the few things left open, but I also think Jess has a plan for those! Soooo… hopefully the entire room will be finished within the next week or so. When it’s finished, I will take more pictures and post them.

Until then… sleep well, eat well, and play well with others!

NAME: Solomon Thomas France
BORN: 1:05PM on 11/01/2004
WEIGHT: 8lbs
LENGTH: 20.5 inches

UPDATE: Solomon’s baby pictures have been posted on Duke’s Memorial Hospital’s web site. Click here to see them.

Well, Emily and Brandon had their baby today at 1:05 p.m. Emily spent last night at the hospital after having several contractions during trick or treating that were about 8 min. apart. They subsided about 10:00 p.m. but they kept her as she was scheduled to be induced this a.m. anyway. Dr. Reese started pitocin around 8:30 a.m. along with an epidural as Em was about 3-4 cm. dilated. The doc broke her water at 9:30 a.m. Emily rested most of the morning and let her body do the work….which was quite a switch from her last baby when she thought she’d get an award for going it drug free :-) …..actually didn’t have time to get any! Anyway, Mom and Dad went down to get lunch about 12:30 and Em was about 6 cm. When they returned 35 min. later, the doctor exited the room and said the baby had been born!!! Em said she went from 6 – 10 cm in about 20 min.!! I arrived with the girls shortly after and they got to see their NEW LITTLE BROTHER Solomon Thomas France! He weighed 8 lbs. and was 20 1/2 in. long. Lots and lots of hair! Em and Brandon are THRILLED to have a little boy!! I believe after the doctor told them it was a boy that Brandon yelled “we have a Y….we have a Y!! (you know, chromosome!) Baby and mom are resting well tonight. The girls just love him!! Isabel asked a billion questions and was also very concerned about her mommy. Maggie touched his face, turned around and waved to her Papa (grandpa) like a proud new sister, then walked to the door and said “bye bye”! They are in for some fun times!!

Thanks to my sister Steph for sending the pics and for writing the blurb above!

I just received a handful of Halloween pictures from my sister Stephanie showing off my adorable nieces and nephew as they Trick or Treated in Wabash this year – Isaac was Flash, Elise was a kitten, Isabel was a doctor, and Maggie was a nurse! Oh yeah… and that’s my hottie wife in her “skeleton” shirt for school on Friday!

As for Jess and I, we spent Halloween at some friends’ house on 7th street – they had rented a cotton candy machine! And we weren’t disappointed either… the lines were long, the kids eager, and cotton candy flowing! What a hoot!
